Reporter, 2002 - Present
Covered police and courts for The Clovis News Journal in New Mexico and then spent more than two years as a business, labor and general assignment reporter for the Springfield News-Sun in Ohio. Wrote and took photos for a biweekly travel column for The News Journal in 2006, chronicling my six-month, solo trip around the world.

Freelance since December 2005, with stories published in Crain's Chicago Business, Time Out Chicago, the Chicago Reader, Slate, World Hum, The New Zealand Herald, Gadling.com, Women's eNews and Shore magazine.

Editor, 2007 - Present
Proofed pages as needed at newspapers in New Mexico and Ohio. Proofed newsletters and online articles from June 2007 to November 2008 at Lawrence Ragan Communications, catching errors in grammar, spelling, design and Associated Press style. Proofed articles in Chicago style for the academic journal published by The American School of Classical Studies at Athens.

Edited a young adult manuscript for Gauthier Publications in January 2010, followed by copyediting.

Teacher, 2009 - Present
Taught journalism at Chicago's School of Leadership and Prosser Career Academy, coaching students on the basics of interviewing and news writing. Lectured and wrote detailed critiques of students' work. Also taught the business of freelancing for Dabble, a Chicago-based startup offering enrichment classes.
