Reporter, 2002 - Present
Covered police and courts for The Clovis News Journal in New Mexico and then spent more than two years as a business, labor and general assignment reporter for the Springfield News-Sun in Ohio. Self-employed since December 2005, with stories published in Crain's Chicago Business, the Chicago Reader, Slate, The New Zealand Herald, Women's eNews and Shore magazine. Wrote and took photos for a biweekly travel column for The News Journal in 2006, chronicling my six-month, solo trip around the world.

Editor, 2007 - Present
Proofed pages as needed at newspapers in New Mexico and Ohio. Proofed newsletters and online articles from June 2007 to November 2008 at Lawrence Ragan Communications, catching errors in grammar, spelling, design and Associated Press style.

Undertook in January the substantive editing of a young adult fantasy manuscript for Gauthier Publications, followed by copyediting and ARC review.

Teacher, 2009 - Present
Taught journalism at Chicago's School of Leadership, coaching students on the basics of interviewing and news writing. Lectured and wrote detailed critiques of students' work.
